Research Collaboration: Semantic-aware Business Intelligence and Data Mining
With the emergence of the Hadoop Data Lake, there is currently a great need for adapting the techniques of data mining for the analysis of semi-structured data (e.g. XML and JSON) and unstructured data (e.g. free-text documents). There is also the trend of integrating semantics (e.g. annotation of data with defined ontologies) in order to enrich the analytical process of Business Intelligence (BI). The BI techniques (e.g. data mining and OLAP) need to be adapted in order to handle the semantically-annotated data residing in the data lake and on the web. The collaboration mainly involves researching the different techniques of mining semantically-annotated semi-structured data, reseacrching the techniques of OLAP using sematic technologies, in addition to the research of successful approaches to utilize such techniques in the data governance process for the data lake.Related publications
