RESEARCH

My research interests have the ultimate goal of providing fast query answering capabilities. This comprises a wide range of techniques from the usage of secondary indexes in non-traditional databases up to the design of new database architectures. After the arise of Big Data, I have put special interest in query optimization for the so-called NOSQL databases, covering both the adaptation of indexing techniques and the schema design in non-relational data models. My topics of interest also take data lake architectures into consideration as an alternative to typical data warehouses to provide data analysts with new capabilities as near real-time (e.g., stream processing) and advanced (e.g., data mining) data analysis techniques.
